Marvel’s Black Panther – Briefing, now with… The Prodigy? (with Video!)

CG - Ma - Sep - Black Panther V1 by Coates & Stelfreeze We’re very much about the comics and also very much about the music. So when news like this comes in we just have to jump on it.
Having a real interest in diversity in comics – not to mention his recent debut in Captain America: Civil War and upcoming solo cinematic debut in 2018 – Marvel’s The Black Panther has been very much on our radar. The latest series is by the creative team of correspondent and author Ta-Nehisi Coates and comics mainstay artist Brian Stelfreeze and already looks set to become one of those defining runs on a character (the first collected volume is due September this year).
But Marvel are also promoting the book with author commentary on where the series is, integrating that with music – this time being THE PRODIGY!
Check out what Marvel have to say below by followed by the integrated Black Panther video, then the Prodigy tune Beast With It ft. Mark the Beast on YouTube!

Marvel Comics SECRET WARS: Graphic Novel Collections

CG - Ma - Nov - Secret Wars We’ve hit an era in comics where big comic events are essentially continual – but Secret Wars is as big as they come. Paying homage to arguably the first big official event in name and somewhat in plot, Secret Wars paves the way for a ‘restructured’ Marvel Universe and a new era: and there’s a lot of it!
So whether you’re an interested casual reader, a bookseller needing some more info on the graphic novel side, or an event completist, we thought a comprehensive page on Marvel’s Secret Wars collections might help. You can find the rest of Marvel’s Oct-Dec output on our dedicated page here (wherein there’s a montage and a link here of these titles) which contains details on the ‘Last Days’ collections which lead up to Secret Wars. We’ll be maintaining and updating this page with the event titles coming in early 2016 – for now here’s those for October to December with a short summary…

All-New All-Different Marvel! News & Opinion – ongoing…

CA - ANAD Marvel DC and Marvel have been unrelenting in new starts over the last years. But when the scheme of their current event Secret Wars was unveiled it became clear that a truly fresh start was coming. Under Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers epic universes are colliding and being destroyed, and the Marvel Universe you know is on a direct course for the Marvel Ultimate Universe (which you may also know!)

The result? A combined new-ish Universe. Check out the latest news below – Opinion’s my own but I’ve got to say – the understandable cynicism of old-school readers aside – there has not been one announcement so far that has not been somewhere between ‘damn interesting’ and ‘Hell yes!’

I’ll be updating with more as it comes…

Miracleman by Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham: Preview!

Miracleman 1 Main How Miracleman came to land at Marvel is a story unto itself (a little on that here) but it’s a big deal, no less the material finally seeing the light of day from Messr’s Gaiman, Buckingham and D’Israeli. And #1 of Miracleman: The Golden Age is, of time of writing, about to be published!
Read on for the press release from Marvel and see below our preview of the opening sequence and more including variant cover art; we might add that variant covers are something we normally leave for the specialist sites but, again, this is just something a bit special…

Captain America: White by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale – Preview!

Captain America White #1 CAPTAIN AMERICA: WHITE #1 – by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale – Coming September 2015
For the uninitiated Loeb and Sale have an ongoing gig in the form of their ‘Color’ series’ with Marvel, chronicling the formative years of Marvel characters and taking a defining colour from the character or costume for the title. So far they’ve done Spider-Man: Blue, Daredevil: Yellow and Hulk: Gray, Daredevil’s original costume being yellow and blue in the comic, the Hulk actually originally being grey (and returned to that scheme by the brilliant Peter David in the late 80’s).
Readers and retailers can look forward to the same pro-treatment and a solid well-written standalone series / collection of Marvel’s flagship supersoldier beginning September – check out our preview below!

CPP - DA - Knights of Pendragon CPP - DA - Death's Head II Dan Abnett is one of the most prolific writers in SFF, scripting both comics and prose. Of the former he’s been a mainstay of the UK and then US scene since the 80’s. In his earlier British comic work perhaps the most noteworthy has been Knights of Pendragon, the radical revamp – with Andy Lanning and Liam Sharp – of Deaths Head, and then with artist David Millgate the origination of a core strip to 2000 AD, Sinister Dexter.
