A Chat with Diego Publishing at London Super Comic Con!

LSCC - Diego Logo Since starting Carabas some Comic / Graphic Novel publishers have very much been on my radar, though with so much to do there’s not been time enough to find out more; London’s Diego Publishing were very much one of them so it was firmly inked in on the LSCC ‘To Do’ list to pop by their stand and find out more…

Diego, as explained by co-owner Giuseppe Pennestri, are bringing the best of Italian comics to the English-speaking market, though their remit is broader, taking in the whole European indie comics scene. They’re not alone in this endeavour – publishers like Self Made Hero and Titan Comics are also translating select acquisitions – though with continental Europe being blissfully absent of age-stereotyping of comics and readers, there is a wealth of material to tap. They have two translators who work on their titles, Juliet Haydock and Nigel Borg.

LSCC - Desdemona Their table has a wonderful display of their comic collections: ROURKE, DARK CHRONICLES, DESDEMONA (their most popular series it sounds, with Book 3 coming out next week) but we chat most about ADAM 2.0, an 8-Book series of which Book 1 РBlack Swan Рis now available. So named with the notion of the protagonist being a second version of mankind, Adam 2.0 is an SF tale which is also a love story. Adam is a survivor of the 9/11 Twin Tower attacks in which he lost his girlfriend. But is the voice in his head real or the result of a brain tumor? Either way 20 years on his girlfriend returns Рso what happened to her? LSCC - Adam 2.0

So some really intriguing stuff from Diego. Plus they seek to bring in an audience to their own books and the European comics scene more generally with the Kickstarter financed European Comics Journal, to act also as a catalogue for independents.

We’ll be following them with a great deal of interest…
